Management Team

CEO – Gregory Hess (gregory.hess[a]treeglobal.com)
Inspired by his desire to apply 20+ years’ experience leading international projects, Gregory co-founded Tree Global to create a commercial enterprise with significant positive impact on a global scale. He began his career managing United Nations (UN) emergency relief operations in conflict and post-conflict countries, including 3 years in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina. Gregory left the UN to launch a strategy and project management consulting firm to serve leading international actors, including National Governments, UN Agencies, Development Banks, and Non-Governmental Organizations. He has worked on some of the international development system’s most pressing challenges including establishing aid coordination systems in the Palestinian territories, re-establishing the food supply system in Iraq, and improving medical supply systems in Africa. Gregory served as an Ambassador for the World Cancer Declaration of the Union for International Cancer Control (2010-2014) and was an Adjunct Professor in the University of Geneva’s International Organizations MBA (IOMBA) program for 6 years (2006-2011). He is a Canadian national with an MPH degree in International Development from Yale University and a BA in Sociology from Harvard University.
 
VP Business Development – Jonathan Hess (jonathan.hess[a]treeglobal.com)
Jonathan has 17 years of corporate finance, capital markets and business development experience. Prior to co-founding Tree Global Jonathan worked at Scotia Capital (the capital markets division of Scotiabank) identifying markets and deal opportunities, structuring deals and executing capital markets and M&A transactions. Jonathan’s key strengths are his ability to develop creative financial structuring alternatives to develop win-win partnership opportunities, manage long-term client relationships and bring together all facets of the organization to successfully develop and execute projects. He is a Canadian national with an MBA from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, and a BA from Dartmouth College.
 
Director of Nursery Systems – Tom Adkins
Tom has significant experience in growing High Performance Trees for a variety of end uses, as well as extensive expertise in all facets of nursery construction and operations including planning, site installation, commissioning, seed handling, sowing, pesticide application, transplanting, hardening-off, despatch and training and management of nursery staff. He also has extensive revegetation experience. Over the past several years, Tom has focused on improving growing systems through his participation in and leadership of research trials. His general knowledge of plants and growing techniques, combined with his ability to implement in “real world” situations, brings a unique skill set that will allow Tree Global to lead in the production of High Performance Trees across species and geographies. An American national, Tom has a BS from the University of Wisconsin.
 
West Africa Regional Representative – Sona Ebai
Throughout his career Hope Sona Ebai has been dedicated to the development of sustainable cocoa and coffee production in West Africa. Sona’s prior positions and appointments include Chief of Party of the World Cocoa Foundation African Cocoa Initiative (WCF / ACI) (2011-2016); Secretary General of the Alliance of Cocoa Producing Countries (COPAL) (2000-2010); Head of the Cocoa and Coffee Board of Cameroon (1993-1999); and several posts in the International Cocoa and Coffee Organization (ICCO) including Chairman of the ICCO Council. Through his various positions, Sona has been instrumental in linking donors and private sector players with government institutions in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Nigeria to support sustainable productivity growth and improved food security. He was the catalyst and organizer of the Summits of Heads of States of African cocoa producing countries in Abuja (2006) and Accra (2007) and 4 International Cocoa Research Conferences. Sona chaired the Independent Working Group on a Sustainable World Cocoa Economy, a maiden attempt to build public and private partnerships with stakeholders from the north and south towards a sustainable world cocoa economy.
Sona holds a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Biological and Agricultural Sciences from Wilmington College, Ohio, USA and a Masters degree in Agricultural Economics from Ohio State University. He has been honoured as a Knight in the Order of Merit of Cameroon, Knight in the Order of Agricultural Merit of Cote d’Ivoire and Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges.
 
Director of Finance & Administration – Peter Kenyon
Peter has 20+ years of diverse experience managing and building companies across numerous geographical areas. He has developed and managed finance, operations, customer service and administration functions for companies (including John Swire & Sons), charities and NGOs while being based in Southeast Asia, Europe and North America. He has advised multinationals and small social enterprises, as a management consultant working for Booz & Co, and UnLtd, the (UK) Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs. Peter brings the ability to solidify the foundations for Tree Global to be able to develop into a world-class socially-responsible business. Peter is a British national with an MBA from Stanford University and an MA from Cambridge University.
 
Nursery Development Manager – Griff Kilbourne
Griff has over 35 years of experience in the management of large scale nurseries and landscaping projects around the world. He has significant experience in managing people from a wide range of countries and cultural backgrounds. Griff is a creative problem-solver, a professional able to perform in challenging environments and deliver against customer and company objectives. Griff has faced most of the imaginable challenges involved in managing nurseries and brings to Tree Global his expert knowledge and practical experience in dealing with these challenges. Griff has developed extensive industry networks in Australia, the United States, China, Southeast Asia and the Middle East and has strong working relationships with international and local suppliers. Prior to working for Tree Global, Griff was the Nursery Operations Superintendent at ValleyCrest Middle East, at their nurseries in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain the UAE. Previously Griff was Nursery Manager at Birdale International’s nursery in Zhuhai, China; Director of Operations Management at Creation Management in Australia; Nursery Manager at Villaworld P/L’s production nursery in Australia; and Nursery Manager at Tropics North nursery in Florida, USA. Griff studied Botany, Horticulture, and Landscape Design at Miami Dade College, USA.

 

Ghana Team

Ghana Nursery Manager – Alberto Britez
Alberto joined Tree Global in 2014 to head up Tree Global’s nursery operations in Ghana. For the past 18 years Alberto has worked as an Agronomist in the United States (11 years) and his home country of Paraguay. Working with all types of tree species (ornamental, horticultural, fruit, forestry and field crops), Alberto has experience with all aspects of nursery management including reproduction, growth, integrated pest management and personnel management. He has extensive experience with field crops including in the Research and Development of pesticides (fungicides, insecticides and herbicides) and biotechnology lab products (inoculants-bacteria). Alberto holds a Master Degree in Plant Protection, a Post Graduate Specialization in Scientific Research, Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification from the Project Management Institute and a BA in Agricultural Engineering from Universidad Nacional de Asunción (Paraguay).
 
Assistant Nursery Manager – Agbeko Ashiagbor
Agbeko is a Ghanaian with 20 years of professional experience working in business management, human resources and education. Prior to joining Tree Global, Agbeko was Deputy General Manager for Ghana operations of Virony NC Company, Ltd, an international construction materials company where he was engaged in all aspects of business activities and personnel management. Agbeko’s experience working in private enterprise is complemented by extensive experience in the education sector as both an administrator and a teacher in various Ghanaian institutes of higher learning. Agbeko has a BA (Hons) in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Ghana – Legon and an MA in Human Resource Management from the University of Cape Coast.
 
Distribution Coordinator – Nicholas Evans
Nicholas is a tropical agriculture specialist with 11 years of experience developing management capacity to establish and strengthen agricultural value chains. Working alongside private, public and non-governmental organisations Nicholas has delivered successful and innovative programs. Utilising detailed commercial understanding of a wide range of agricultural operations Nicholas has supported farmer organisations, crop buyers and exporters to grow their businesses. This experience provided Nicholas the opportunity to use innovative technology based interventions which strengthen and improve management systems. The analysis of operations has enabled Nicholas to obtain insights into the factors influencing uptake of new technologies and how to manage deployment challenges. Nicholas has developed broad technical and organisational capacity building skill set with both farmers and technicians.
Nicholas is a UK national with work experience in Europe, Africa and Asia. He holds a MS Natural Resource Management, Cranfield University and a BSc (Hons) Plant Sciences, Newcastle Upon Tyne University
 
Area Distribution Manager – Samuel Fosu
Samuel is a Ghanaian with 10 years of experience working in project management and business development. Prior to joining Tree Global, Samuel worked as Zonal Manager for Mennonite Economic Development Associates (“MEDA”) where is was responsible for project planning and management, monitoring and oversight of key stakeholders is the ESMI project and the implementation of activities in the field. Samuel has also worked for Teledata CT as an Account Manager and for Expresso Telecom as a Customer Services officer. Samuel has worked in Ghana for Coca-Cola in their Business Development department.
Samuel has a BA in Political Science from University of Ghana and an MBA from KNUST, Ghana.

 

Board of Directors

Andrew Bauer-Moore
Andrew has worked with Tree Global since inception advising on Intellectual Property (IP) strategy, company growth and corporate contracts. Andrew is a Swiss resident and is qualified as a Swiss and European Patent Attorney as well as a Canadian and U.S. Patent Agent.
Currently Andrew is Corporate Intellectual Property Counsel for Dupont de Numours, a world-renowned market-driven science company. Andrew has global responsibility for the Intellectual Property of DuPont’s Thermoplastic Composites and Thermoplastic Elastomers businesses, managing a team of professionals responsible for all the intellectual property needs of these businesses. He also has regional (EMEA) responsibility for DuPont’s Crop Protection business, and has created an active anti-counterfeit and anti-infringement network to serve this business. Under Andrew’s management, DuPont has pioneered in IP enforcement in Eastern Europe, in particular Russia, Serbia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. This program has resulted in a substantial reduction of counterfeits of DuPont’s Crop Protection products.
Prior to joining DuPont in 2004, Andrew worked as Corporate Intellectual Property Counsel for Serono International S.A. (an international pharma/biotechnology company), in Geneva, Switzerland and as an Associate in two Canadian law firms. Andrew has published numerous papers in the bio-organic chemistry space and has lectured on IP and licencing protection.
Andrew is fluent in English, French and German. He holds a Ph.D. in Bio-organic Chemistry and a B.Sc Chemistry (honours), both from McGill University.
 
Tom Urban
Tom began his professional career in investment banking with Goldman, Sachs & Co. in 1988. He subsequently spent 14 years in the agricultural seeds business with Pioneer Hi-Bred and E.I. DuPont de Nemours primarily in Eastern and Western Europe. In 2004, Tom left DuPont to join the early-stage forestry genetics company, CellFor, Inc. and served as CellFor’s CEO until 2012 when the Company was sold to ArborGen, the market leader in forestry genetics. Tom founded Agribusiness Advisors in 2013 and is currently working with early stage companies as an investor and advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors. The Agribusiness Advisors portfolio includes companies in precision farming, bio-pesticides, insect protein and industrial enzymes. Tom also serves as an Entrepreneur in Residence at the University of British Columbia.
Tom received his undergraduate degree from Middlebury College and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
 
Kevin Dorsing
Kevin Dorsing currently resides in Othello, Washington where for the past 15 years he has served as president and founding member of Royal Ridge Fruit and Cold storage. During his time as president, he has led the company from a single product cherry processor to what now includes a full line of industrial and retail dried and frozen fruit. Prior to his current job, he was a partner and manager for Dorsing Farms Inc. specializing in the company’s fruit growing operation. Kevin is activity involved in industry and charity work including the cherry federal marketing order, MEDA board member, and Hesston College board member. He holds a B. S. in business administration from Eastern Mennonite University.
